I am the kid in the classroom jumping up and down with his hand up wanting to share all the neat stuff that is swirling thru my head. The good things is now all these new social media platforms and tools allow me to do that, and its a total blast.
I love spreading the word about what these Web 2.0 tools can do. And I love how the average person can use these tools to affect change or just tell their story.
For some reason, people like to hear me talk on these topics, so I do. “Down to earth” is a phrase heard many times from people talking about either the web videos shows I host or my in person talks. I don’t use big words, I try my best to put what I’m trying to explain in easy to understand stories. When I give a talk, I bring with me videotaped vignettes of people who are using social media and social networking on small and large scale projects.
I give presentations and consult with businesses, non-profits, and universities on what social media and social networking are, and how they can utilize these great tools to connect better within their company and with their customers.
I offer a unique perspective in this area, because I create social media and social networks. I see first hand what works and what doesn’t. I don’t just talk about it, I live it.

Giving a presentation: “Just what is social media?”
As Community Manager of the social networking site The Green House, I have first hand experience in what works and what doesn’t when creating a social network.
As creator and host of Gardenfork, a web video show about cooking, gardening, and other fun stuff; and Real World Green, a web video show about practical green living, I produce social media every week, and about 80,000 people watch the shows each month.
ericrochow.com is where I post the sometimes interesting stuff that pops into my head or some neat idea that I have learned about. I’m not a prolific blogger, I’m better at talking than I am at writing. And I’m too busy creating social media and managing The Green House.
I also host a monthly Real Time Networking event BKLN 2.0 . I use social networking tools to get the word out about this in-person get-together in Brooklyn. A similar monthly event is in the works for Chicago.
