despite the stomach flu, i attended my first podcamp. i was very impressed. i attend a number of conferences yearly, and this one, run totally by volunteers, ran better than pay events i have attended.
i attended a session with Dan Rayburn, of Streaming Media, being interviewed by John Havens, podcasting guru of about.com. Listening to Dan, what stood out to me were 2 things: (I’m paraphrasing here):
• Your content has to be something people want to watch.
• User Generated Content ( UGC ) is a bubble.
There was a ton of activity going on, a lot of it spontaneous, the kind where you just run into people and things start to happen. I got a stack of business cards that i’m just now going thru.
Chris penn had a booth that he turned into a free form promotion area. Uncle Seth and natalie gelman both were playing songs at the booth, and if you bought a CD, they’d write a song for your podcast. nice. $15 well spent.
I’ll post more later, and some links and more answers from the session I spoke at.
